What was going through Ms Wendy's mind ?
Wendy is a 19 year old Appaloosa pony. She is blind and a favorite among all visitors to the rescue. She enjoys attention and treats provided by knowledgable volunteers at the rescue. See Wendy's story below.

About Me
- Wendy's Fan Club President
- My name is Penne Crews and I am a volunteer at the HRRRF and have been since July of last year. I go out every Sat. am (when I am not traveling) and help with AM feed. I have found it to be a very rewarding experience and have mets lots of wonderful people. The mornings are quiet until the horses in the barn see you coming in with the wheel barrow of grain and then the neighing, and movement of the front hoof begins (showing impatience)and the pacing, and the heads bobbing up and down as you walk by a stall. The head bobbing is the best and some of them have perfected it. I had little experience with horses other than riding until I started at the rescue. Now, I have experience but am learning new things every weekend. It's lots of fun and very humbling to be around so many beautiful animals. I feel extremely fortunate.

Wendy was a working girl most of her life. She rode children at a camp in NC all summer then was sent down to a riding school in Ga. Poor Wendy didn't get much time off. She taught many children to ride, went to many horse shows and gave all she could. She was treated well but when she started to go blind, no one wanted her anymore. She wasn't able to do lessons any longer; she lost her value as a school pony. She is blind now, but still as sweet and can be ridden. She is safe as any horse but she needs to be guided as to where to go and will go anywhere. She is very trusting. She is used at the rescue at birthday parties and takes young children for a ride in the ring. She teaches all of us about disabilities and their "un-limitations". We hope she lives many more healthy happy years. With your support, she will always be safe and well treated. Please join Wendy's fan club and become a supporter of the rescue. As with all of our fan clubs, by joining you are helping the rescue to feed, provide supplements, hay, vet care and any special needs. We will announce any special projects for Wendy on the blog as well as other farm projects, events, fundraisers. Please note: Wendy is up for adoption and/or sponsorship. If she is adopted in the future her fan club may dissolve.
